I am well into a new fitness regime with the great folks at the HIT Center of Jacksonville. HIT stands for High Intensity Training, and they have sport-specific programs geared to your individual needs.
To measure your BMI, they put you into a contraption they call the "Bod Pod" to measure your true body fat ratio. Well, I always knew I was above average; my percentage was 32.7%, or about 79 lbs of fat.
Holy Shit, I AM a big, fat, tub of goo.
Their goal for me is a modest one -- to lose about 1 - 2 lbs per week in order to get my ratio down into the 20's. They have suggested a nutrition plan for me to consume no more than 2500 calories per day by eating 6 times a day and trying to focus on a low glycemic index. So far, so good: I've lost about 5 lbs in two weeks.
My workouts are focusing on cardio, balance and core. Hitting balls rapid-fire, while balancing on each leg, and while balancing on a balance board is fun, actually. My least favorite excercise so far has been to balance on one leg and bend forward and side to side. Or should I say to TRY and balance on one leg. I have a long way to go.
It's not cheap, though. 25 sessions with a before and after analysis runs a little over $1k. Fortunately, I get a small reimbursement through work. The price will be worth it after I am able to keep my focus and endurance through an entire round consistently.
Updates to follow. 5 down, 20 to go!
